Prolific target man Rickie Lambert will add some cutting edge to the Spireites

In a week of positive news, Chesterfield have signed English striker Rickie Lambert from Preston North End for $6 million.

The recruitment of Rickie Lambert will bolster the Spireites front line who has struggled for goals this season, most notably with Italian striker Alberto Paloschi who went 16 matches without a goal. Lambert, 32 had a stand out season with Preston North End grabbing 16 goals and 11 assists in 24 matches, although some have considered the move for the veteran striker  as a risk due to his age, given his ability to put the ball into the back of the net, the risk may well pay off.

Lambert is known for his physical presence, strong aerial prowess and sound technical ability on the ball for a big man; the English striker will fit well into the Glory Days system. The inclusion of Lambert will create a selection headache for Glory Days who already have two viable strikers to lead the line in Rodrigo and Alberto Paloschi..

Manager Glory Days views on his latest acquisition:

“I’ve always been a great admirer of Rickie (Lambert) since he joined Preston a few seasons ago and I did try to sign him before but it’s great to finally get him at Chesterfield. The lad has remarkable technical ability given his size and can interplay with midfielder which will make us all the more dangerous. His ability to take free kicks and penalties will be another asset to our side”

When questioned why there was a deviation from Chesterfield’s youth recruitment policy
“I think when you have a talent such as Lambert; you have to go after them regardless of age. Rickie is such a talent.

In regards to the youth policy, Chesterfield will look for the right player regardless of age and if you look at the older players we have recruited namely Claudio Bravo and Leon Britton, they have been a quintessential part of the team and if they are any barometer of success, Lambert will do well”

Fans will however have to wait for Lambert’s first appearance as he is recovering from a 6 week injury suffered playing for Preston North End.
